CHEM 1090: General Chemistry I

Course Information-Winter 2009

CHEM 1090-LN05 Syllabus

CHEM 1090-LN05 (TTh 12:00-1:55p) Content Timeline

Course Objectives

The objectives are ordered by exam. Choose the exam # and press "Show me". The objective for the selected exam will come up in a new window.

Homework Assignments

Choose the exam # and press "Show me". The solutions for the selected exam will come up in a new window. The list of assigned problems can be found in the objective sheet for that particular exam.

Each assignment has three parts- hints, answers, and solutions. If you aren't sure how to start a problem, see if there's a hint available for it. If you want to see if got the right answer, look in the answers section. If you get it wrong, rework it and don't simply look in the solution section. You need to learn to fix your own mistakes. Looking in the solution section should be done only as a last resort since. You need to learn to fix your own mistakes! It's a very valuable problem-solving skill.

Lecture Notes

I've begun moving my lectures over to PowerPoint. In order to help you with your notes, I've selected a number of my slides from each chapter and reformatted them into PDF files. They include data, graphs, pictures, and anything else that can be time-consuming to copy during lecture which will allow you to spend more time listening and interacting during class. These notes can't be used in-place of attending class since there is a lot of missing information.

Course Grade

You can look up your overall course grade using WASI. If you don't have a WASI number, you need to request one.

Available Tutorials

Not all of the tutorials are designed for my General Chemistry I class. This class takes a deeper look at the material that is covered in Introductory Chemistry in addition to extra material. In some cases, I have two versions of a tutorial- one for General Chemistry I and the other for Introductory Chemistry. These are those that are appropriate for General Chemistry I.

All of the web links are a single page separated by course, general purpose, and other similar subjects. Putting them on one page makes it easier for me to try and keep them current.
